Abia State University, Uturu, has introduced new measures to curb cultism within and outside the school. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Uche Ikonne announced this prior to the school’s 24th convocation, which saw 3,561 graduands formally admitted into various degrees and diplomas, including awarding honorary doctoral degree to three individuals.
Under the new measures, which are fallouts of the recent beheading of two students of the university, the VC has approved a special office for students and staff to alert the authorities on cult activities. The new measures require all operators of private commercial hostels located outside ABSU Campus to form an association and liaise with the school from time to time.
On the directive of ABSU Visitor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, names of student-cultists in all schools in the state will henceforth be published.
Addressing students and guests, Dr. Ikpeazu decried cultism in schools, saying the current global situation is that graduates should strive for self-reliance if they are be relevant
