Niger State PDP Woos Aggrieved Party Members

The new leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Niger State has taken steps to woo back aggrieved members of the party who pulled out of the state congress of the party.
The aggrieved members led by a onetime state chairman of the party, Abdulrahaman Enagi, alleged the hijack of the entire congress process by a former governor of the state and BOT member of the party, Abdulkhadir Kure, a claim the former governor denied.
The Chairman of the party in the state, Barrister Tanko Beji, told newsmen in Minna that overtures had been made to angered party men and women and ‘there is light at the end of the tunnel’.
Tanko Beji said that he had already held private meetings with Abdulrahaman Enagi and the former Secretary to the Niger State Government, Idris Ndako Kpaki, and the meetings were fruitful.
“They (aggrieved members) stated their cases, they told me what they want, we are trying to reach a compromise.
“One thing I can tell you is that these people are committed to the PDP. They are not leaving PDP, we will continue the meeting on Monday,” he said.
On the alleged involvement of two former Governors of the state in the crisis, Tanko Beji said that both Engineer Kure and Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu were irrevocably committed to the PDP.
“If there is anything between them it is personal and I cannot involve myself in their personal matters,” he said.
The new PDP leader in the state promised to run an “all inclusive administration” where every member would be allowed to contribute to the day to day administration of the party because “nobody has monopoly of knowledge”.
He promised to reward loyalty to the party while disloyalty would be punished according to the constitution of the party.
Tanko Beji has in the meantime unfolded a 4-point plan of action for the party, including “pursuance of party supremacy, party discipline, welfare of members and reconciliation”.
