Prison Love [owerri]

Efforts to rehabilitate, reform and reintegrate inmates in Nigerian prisons received a boost on Monday 30th April 2018 when a non-governmental organisation, HELP THIS LIFE IN NEED FOUNDATION freed 5 inmates for the sum of #70,000 and donated items worth N800,000 to Fedral prisons Owerri Imo State.

The  inmates who was set free, was convicted by the Court, Owing to their inability to pay for their release they were remained in prison.
It was these sums the NGO had to offset to secure their freedom.

Items donated includes rechargeable lantern for all the rooms and toiletries.

Its founder, Osuchukwu Ejike Henry, said people should show concern about the welfare of inmates if they must be reformed. He urged the inmates to be of good conduct, adding that their change of attitude would change their life for the better.

Henry said: “The society believes that one must not lock people up, throw away the key and forget about them.”

He advocated a holistic re-structuring of the prison system so that inmates can acquire different skills while in jail.

He also commended the cordial and harmonious relationship exhibited by the prisoners and the officers in charge.

The Deputy comptroller of Prison Rev. Freedman Ben Rabbi who thanked the NGO for the kind gesture, assured the visitors of judicious use of the items with fear of God. said such gesture would enhance government’s efforts at decongesting the prisons.
