Disclose your health status, medical bill or face legal action – Group dares President Buhari

The Foundation for Human Rights and Anti-Corruption Crusade, FHRACC, has threatened to institute legal action against President Muhammadu Buhari if he fails to declare his health status, as well as the amount he spent to treat himself in the United Kingdom.

FHRACC National President, Alaowei Ebikonbowei handed down the threat in a statement on Saturday.

He stated that the refusal of the Government to disclose the money spent on the President’s health was the greatest disservice to Nigerians.

The stated that concealing such vital information from the public was “corruption” itself, noting that President Buhari was under obligation, both in law and under all known conventional practices to be accountable to the people who gave him their mandate.

“We believed that there is no security threat for Buhari to declare his health to Nigerians and or furnish us with the money he has spent on his health.

“Concealing such vital information from the prying public is to say the least corruption itself. If security should be an excuse from disclosing public money the Government has spent on public servants, then the law can also preclude public office holders from declaring their assets as required by the Code of Conduct Bureau Act.

“The Government cannot be flouting the relevant provisions of the laws of the land, especially the Freedom of Information Act and the 1999 Constitution. We are calling on the Government to do what is right in the eyes of the law, otherwise we may take some necessary legal steps to compel it to do the right thing.

“President Buhari sworn an oath to protect the laws of the land and not to breach them with impunity. It’s for public good, public safety and public morality that Mr President informs Nigerians of the details of his health and how much he has spent to treat himself. This is the demonstration of the Government’s sincerity in upholding its much chorused “Change Must Begin With Me”, a new national orientation that it has introduced to Nigerians”, he said.

Nollywood actor, scriptwriter, Chike Bryan is dead

Popular Nollywood actor and former President of Scriptwriters Guild of Nigeria, SGN, Chike Bryan, is dead.

Bryan, who was diagnosed with chronic renal failure in July 2013 and underwent regular dialysis at Igando General Hospital, Lagos, died last week.

Recall that in June 2014, the deceased had a successful kidney transplant after President Goodluck Jonathan donated N10 million for Bryan’s treatment abroad.

The money was given to him through the AGN President, Ibinabo Fiberesima.

Bryan, however, died three years after he survived a kidney transplant in India.

His close friend and colleague, Mac Collins Chidebe broke the news of his death on Facebook at the weekend.

According to him, Bryan was riding in his friend’s car when he received a phone call from home about some happenings. Then he lost his cool.

Afterwards, the friend asked him to calm down but it was too late. He suddenly had stroke and began throwing up in his friend’s car.

Chidebe wrote, “A guy I have worked so closely with in almost 10 months. Suddenly he disappears from my life. Death, O death, why?

“He woke up this morning hale and hearty. He had breakfast at a friend’s and was on his way to the office.

“Praying fervently for him, our friend made a turn and drove on neck break speed to his house where he picked his wife and rushed him to the hospital where he was admitted but later referred to LASUTH in Ikeja.

“On getting to LASUTH, the wife was told the hospital could not admit him for lack of bed space. For almost five hours my buddy was hanging on to dear life without treatment. How callous can some medical personnel be! An emergency case was treated with so much nonchalance.

“So much grief, sorrow, and tears in his home. CBN left behind a young wife and 5 lovely kids. I pray God to give the family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.”

The actor and scriptwriter is known mostly for some of his greatest movie projects including A Million Madness, Magic Cap and Polygamy.

His death is coming less than two weeks after veteran actor, Prince James Uche, died of kidney failure.

Expect bloody reprisal – Herdsmen give Kwara govt. ultimatum over killings

Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, MACBAN, has raised the alarm over incessant killings of its members in some parts of Kwara State by suspected men of Vigilante Group of Nigeria.

MACBAN has consequently given the state government and security agencies two weeks ultimatum to unravel masterminds of the attacks in order to forestall a bloody reprisal.

The warning followed a recent fracas between a vigilante group and some herdsmen in Gwanara, Baruten Local Government Area of the state, where some herdsmen were allegedly murdered.

State Chairman, Alhaji Usman Adamu, told newsmen in Ilorin, that it was shocking that some natives have continued to wage war against Fulani herdsmen for inexplicable reasons.

He warned that members of his association might be forced to retaliate if urgent action was not taken to unmask those behind the attack and bring them to justice.

He said: “Fulanis from across the country and neighbouring countries gathered here last week and they requested for my permission to go and retaliate but I insisted that they should sheath their swords.

“From there, they started pointing accusing fingers at me that government was paying money to me, that is why I don’t want them to retaliate despite incessant attacks on Fulanis.

“So, we want the Kwara State Government to bring the killers of Fulanis to book; if not, our people are ready to fight for their right.

“Then, we want this one to be the last because Fulanis of these days have changed. See what is happening in Nasarawa, Zamfara, Jos and other states.

“If you see what our Fulanis did in Imo, and if you are Muslims honestly, you will cry. And if somebody said it was Fulanis that did that, you will not believe it.

“The gruesome killing of our members in Gwanara by suspected Vigilante Group is latest in the sustained attack on us, and we are surprised that up till now, no one had been arrested in connection with the attack.

“We can’t continue to maintain silence in a situation like this where our members are being killed callously.

“We are calling on the state government to do something very urgent on the activities of vigilante groups because we don’t want what is happening in other states to happen in Kwara.

“Our people have decided to go and storm Yakira town, in Baruten Local Government Area, to avenge the attack but we have been pleading with them not to seek vengeance.

“They have now given us two weeks to see what the state government and relevant security agencies would do over the incident to determine their next line of action”.
