Economic and other activities were virtually paralysed on Thursday in Abia State as workers in the state joined the nationwide strike action called by the Comrade Ayuba Wabba-led faction of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
Banks in Umuahia, the state capital which began some skeletal services in the morning later closed shop when a monitoring task force of NLC went round to picket them for not complying with the directive to stay off work.
Customers were denied access to the banks except those who wanted to use the Automated Teller Machine for their transactions.
