Abia secretariat, banks, schools locked as workers join strike

Economic and other ac­tivities were virtually paralysed on Thursday in Abia State as workers in the state joined the nation­wide strike action called by the Comrade Ayuba Wabba-led faction of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Banks in Umuahia, the state capital which began some skeletal services in the morning later closed shop when a monitoring task force of NLC went round to picket them for not complying with the directive to stay off work.

Customers were denied access to the banks ex­cept those who wanted to use the Automated Teller Machine for their transac­tions.
