A businessman identified as Kingsley Oshiegbu was on Wednesday
tried before an Ikeja High court for beating a woman to death during an
argument.|
Oshiegbu was charged with manslaughter by Justice Hakeem
Oshodi.
The State Prosecutor, Mr M.T Adewoye, explained to the court
that the accused committed the offence on April 1, 2015.
He said Oshiegbu during an argument punched Miss Ifeoma
Ndidi, on the head which led to her death at No. 7, Majaro St., Agege, Lagos.
“The defendant had a verbal misunderstanding with the
deceased which led to a heated exchange of words as well as insults.
“Angered by Ndidi’s insults, Oshiegbu punched her on the
head which led to her collapse and eventual death,” the prosecutor said.
According to the prosecutor, the offence is punishable under
Section 222 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.
The defense counsel, Mr Shaw Jason, appealed to the court to
grant bail to the accused on liberal terms.
“I wish to also notify the court that the defendant has been
in prison custody for the past two years,” Jason said.
However, Justice Hakeem Oshodi consequently adjourned the
matter till June 26, 2017 for ruling on the bail application and trial.
