Former president Olusegun Obasanjo, on Tuesday, stated that
elected or appointed government officials must be prepared before they get to
office.
Obasanjo, who spoke in Abuja, declared that governance is
not what anyone can learn when already in position.
OBJ, as fondly called, said people must have plan and ideas
before seeking and taking leadership responsibilities.
His words: “No person should go into government with ‘empty
mind’ hoping to fill the mind up when he is already in power.
“He should be fired by ideals and only itching to run with
it after gaining power.”
Obasano added that said a programme of work with timeline
must be available on the first day of work for a political leader.
He noted that the federal government had shown a strong
commitment in dealing with the problems of corruption including the
introduction of Treasury Single Account (TSA).
The former leader further appealed to Nigerians to support
government and anti-graft agencies to curb the challenge.
