Ahmed Makarfi, chairman of the caretaker committee of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has advised party members to refrain from
insulting the government of President Muhammadu Buhari over its “daily
failures”.

The chairman rather urged his party men to channel their
energy towards proffering a “better alternative” to the government in power.
“Dear party members, instead of insulting the government of
the day as they continue to fail daily, let us provide a better alternative,”
read a message he personally endorsed on his Twitter account.
“Insults will not make Nigeria work, but solutions and a
better alternative will.”

Makarfi was appointed to lead the opposition party on May
21, but Ali Modu Sheriff, factional chairman of the PDP, has been struggling
with him for control.
On Monday, Sheriff vowed that there would be no peace in the
party until Makarfi resigns.
Going by the party’s plan, Makarfi will step down on August
17 after the emergence of a new chairman at the party’s convention in Port
Harcourt, Rivers state capital.
The chairmanship slot has been zoned to the south.
