The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has said that the Federation would immortalize the late former coach of the Super Eagle Stephen Keshi.
Pinnick disclosed this yesterday when he led a delegation to pay a condolence visit to the Benin residence of the late Keshi to commiserate with the family.
He said as part of efforts to remember Keshi’s immense contribution to the nation and its sport, the NFF would liaise with the Ministry of Youth and Sport to see how Keshi would be immortalized.
While commiserating with the Keshi family, Pinnick said Keshi led the football family for decades and was always very assertive because he was a coach who wants the best for the country and that he justified that with every given opportunity
“Keshi was somebody who contributed immensely to the growth and development of football ýboth as a player and as a coach, on the field, on the touchline and off the field. So, there is no way you can isolate the Nigerian Football Federation from this for no reason,” he said.
“When we meet in our executive committee meeting in the next few weeks, we will come out with something. We can possibly name a tournament after him. We will look at it; they are all possibilities but everything is subject to the executive committee of the Nigerian Football Federation.ý”
He assured Keshi’s family that the NFF is with them at the moment of grief, saying that the Edo state FA would be part of all the arrangement and keep them abreast of the burial development.
Responding on behalf of the family, Kesh’s brother-in-law, Richard Aburimen, thanked the NFF and the delegation from Edo and Delta States for condoling with the Keshi family.
Aburimen however said the burial rites of the former Super Eagles coach would be announced soon by the family.
