An official of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has been arrested by the police for allegedly inflicting severe injury on a tailor in Kubwa, Abuja.
The victim, a resident of Chikakore, was said to have been attacked by the 34-year-old and four of his colleagues with a gun.
City News gathered that the suspect, identified as Utibi, lived close to the victim’s workshop in Gbazango area of the town and had negotiated to learn tailoring from him.
The source said the victim offered to engage him on a three months training for a fee of N80,000, but that the suspect said a month would be enough for him to learn the trade.
“The officer later reached an agreement with the tailor to pay N20,000 for a month, but deposited N10,000, with a promise to pay the balance before the end of the training,” the source added.
The source, however, said that trouble ensued when the suspect, who decided to back out from the training after the first week, came demanding for refund of his money but the victim refused to give him.
“The officer mobilised four of his colleagues who came to the tailor’s workshop with their van and whisked him away to where they allegedly inflicted severe injuries on him with the butts of their guns before abandoning him,” the source alleged.
City News learnt that the victim reported the case to the police after regaining consciousness and the suspect was apprehended in his house by the police, three weeks later, after several unsuccessful attempts to apprehend him.
Confirming the arrest, the Kubwa Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Chief Superintendent Nuruddeen Sabo, said the suspect would be charged to court after investigation was carried out.
“His other accomplices are still at large but efforts are on to arrest them,” he added.
