As part of efforts to improve on its internally generated revenue
(IGR), the Imo State government at the weekend in Owerri, inaugurated a
committee to supervise revenue generation, as it relates to gas, rent
and allied matters.
The committee, known as Gas Revenue, Rent Recovery and Allied Matters
in Oil Producing communities, is headed by the Chief of Staff,
Operations, Government House, Kingsley Uju.
Inaugurating the committee, Secretary to the state government, George
Eche, who represented the governor, Rochas Okorocha, gave the terms of
reference to include; creating harmonious working relations between oil
companies operating in the state and their host communities.
The committee would also collect rents owed the state, by oil
companies, recover oil wells wrongly ceded to neighbouring states, and
ensure proper evaluation of oil facilities.
The terms of reference also include ensuring that the companies
comply with the rules on payment of oil revenues accruals, to the host
communities and local councils.
Government also charged the panel to monitor the citing of projects
in oil communities, in order to ensure that the state is not cheated in
such terms.
Chairman of the committee, promised that committee would ensure that
the state, local councils and host communities, do not suffer
deprivation anymore.
