The Chairman, Senate Committee on works, Senator Kabiru
Ibrahim Gaya has described as unfortunate, Nigeria Police raid on the home of
Senator Danjuma Goje last week Thursday.
In an interview with DAILY POST in Abuja, the lawmaker
representing Kano South Senatorial district, explained that in the course of
the raids, some documents belonging to the Senate Committee on Appropriations
were carted away.
His words: “You could see what happened to the Chairman,
Committee on Appropriations. It’s very unfortunate because documents belonging
to the Committee which were in his house were taken away after being ransacked
by the police.”
Asked if the Senate will meet the deadline considering that
the lifespan of 2016 budget would expire next month, he expressed optimism that
the legislature will make sure that it completed the work on 2017 budget before
May ending.
“Those are the papers the Committee was working on which
were taken away, but we will continue to work in the interest of Nigerians,
despite the set back”, he emphasised.
Gaya added that all the various Committees had already
submitted their reports to the appropriation for harmonisation before the
general debates.
According to him, the Federal Executive Council was still
awarding contracts and at the same time looking for ways to fund road projects
which were captured in 2016 budgets, saying that those projects can no longer
reflect on the 2017 Appropriations.
