The Cross River State Police Command has arrested two
sisters, Gift Etim Ikono and her sister, Esther Ikono and one woman, Florence
Victor Ekpo, for child trafficking. Commissioner of Police, Jimoh Ozi-Obeh, said the two girls
gave birth to two different babies and the babies were allegedly sold out by
Ekpo to an unknown buyer.
He said investigation was still ongoing to get to the root
of the matter.
Also arrested were Monday Edet Akpan and Etim Okon Etim who
allegedly connived with a native doctor, Felix Edet Umoh, to murder two men who
they accused of killing their children through witchcraft.
The police also paraded 14 suspected armed robbers.Also arrested were 14 armed robbers.
Ozi-Obeh further disclosed that a Lexus Jeep, with
registration number LSD 281 CY, which was snatched in Calabar, was trailed to
Gwarimpa, Abuja where it was recovered. He said the suspects were helping the
police with investigations.
The Police Commissioner said, “In the light of the above, it
will be pertinent to reassure members of the general public that the command
has the capacity, capability and the wherewithal to deal with any miscreant who
may dare to harass, intimidate and instill fears in the mind of Cross
Riverians.”
He charged Calabar residents to maintain peace, be vigilant
and to report all suspicious characters and movement to security agents for
prompt action.
