Abia Elders Support Court’s Ruling On Ikpeazu

A
n emergency joint meeting of elders, traditional prime ministers, titled chiefs, community leaders of all autonomous communities across Abia State held at Uche Ogah Campaign Office in Umuahia has come up with a resolution that they stand by the judgment of the Abuja High Court.
They also declared support for INEC’s decision to give Uche Ogah Certificate of Return as the Governor elect.
In a communiqué read by Traditional Prime Minister of Ibeku, Umuahia North, Uche Akwukwaegbu, hinted that Abia residents are yearning for Uche Ogah and therefore they declare their unwavering support for the ruling and demands immediate swearing-in.
However, the traditional institution in the State led by Eze Eberechi Dik are singing a different tune as they also hinted that Abia residents voted massively for Okezie Ikpeazu and hence they stand firm on their mandate.
Some political and traditional leaders in the state also condemned the judgment earlier on Wednesday.
The elder statesmen, led by a former governorship candidate in Abia State, Mr Onyema Ugochukwu also criticized the decision by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to issue a Certificate of Return to the main challenger in the party primaries of April 2015, Mr Samson Ogah.
Mr Ugochukwu said the leaders are concerned that the controversial court ruling, which has thrown the state into uncertainty and confusion might snowball into full scale unrest if the situation, which they tagged a conspiracy involving INEC to throw the state into anarchy, is not halted.
Treasonable Felony
Meanwhile, a Civil Society Group under the aegis of Abia Interest Group called for the arrest of Mr Ogah over alleged treasonable felony to upturn a democratically elected governor.
The group, led by its Director General, Mr Eze Chikamnayo, said the arrest of Dr Ogah, who is the main challenger in the party primaries, which produced the gubernatorial candidate for April 2015 governorship elections in the state, will serve as deterrent to any group or persons who intend to jeopardize the peace of the state.
The groups said there is need to ensure that Abia State does not become another flashpoint in yet another geopolitical zone of the country resulting from unnecessary controversies.
