Troops of 81 Battalion and elements of 251 Battalion of Nigerian Army
yesterday killed five Boko Haram terrorists in an ambush while fleeing
Sambisa forest in Borno State.
Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, disclosed
this yesterday in a statement issued to newsmen in Maiduguri. The troops,
according Usman, also recovered 14 motorcycles and bicycles, assorted
laundry items and bags.
The statement reads in part: “From all indication, the fleeing
terrorists intended to hook up with their wives and children who are
obviously waiting for them close to Fulawani village for onward movement
to other locations in Sambisa forest.”
Usman added that the terrorists were trying to meet with their
families to relocate to other places, adding that troops had earlier
arrested some women and children fleeing from the forest on
Saturday.
He, however, noted: “During screening and interrogation, it was
confirmed that they were an advanced party relocating to new places,
following intense tactical operation by troops. It was also discovered
that the recovered items were for sale in other locations where remnants
of the terrorists were hiding and in dire need of logistics. Further
investigation also revealed that the terrorists were fleeing Sambisa
forest to other areas for safety.”
He said the Boko Haram terrorists could no longer withstand the
continued aerial and ground bombardments by both the Nigerian Air Force
(NAF) and troops of the Nigerian Army.
